We've typically erred on the side of "less spamming of our users is better", but in this case, you're absolutely correct -- this particular maintenance probably should have merited a special communication.  Much like any young company, we'll continue striving for improvement in how we share important information with our users, hopefully without losing the balance between good info vs. spam. Our only issue is that we should not have had to come to the blog to get this info. Perhaps a note in the weekly email or something? Just my $.02 it seems to be getting more and more commonplace for companies to expect their customers to be checking their blogs or subscribing to feeds for updates.
